The Lundberg Bakery was built in 1876 by Swedish immigrant Charles Lundberg. A brick oven dating to 1909 is still in the building and may be the oldest of its kind remaining in the state. This historic oven was preserved for display as part of our restoration of the Bakery.
Initially, we prepared a Preservation Plan for exterior restoration and interior rehabilitation. We have provided architectural services for three construction phases:
•  Phase I- roofing and structural stabilization of roof and wall structure
•  Phase II- structural stabilization of the south wall, treatment for rising damp, and construction of an addition providing space for new mechanical systems and visitor accessibility and fire egress
•  Phase III- architectural services for additional masonry restoration, repair of windows and doors, reconstruction of the original front porch, and complete rehabilitation of the interior to meet retail, office, dining, and vocational uses for the City of Austin’s Community Market with items made by senior citizens

The Lundberg Bakery project was approved by the Texas Historical Commission and the City of Austin Landmarks Commission. In 1995, it received a Preservation Award from the Heritage Society of Austin.
